Julia (2006) stated, A good leadership produce a good result in workplace safety and health. A good leadership is a main key element of any safety organization, but it is not deeply understood by the managers how safety can be the main backbone behind the success of any organization (PPE, 2018)
Glen (2018) highlighted, Effective health and safety performance comes from the top; members of the board have both collective and individual responsibility for health and safety. Directors and boards need to examine their own behaviors, both individually and collectively, against the guidance given and, where they see that they fall short of the standards it sets them, to change what they do to become more effective leaders in health and safety (HSE, 2018)
Julia (2006) stated, Managers are the main leaders and the role models for a worker. Manages should encourage the workers to work out in the safe zone. A strong management is based on good safety and health performance. The main 4 actions for leaders towards health and safety (PennState, 2005)

Correct,Leaders are key personal in organisation to design & improve the working condition.According to the Blake & mouton leadership grid, thinking of safety & health can be considered as "Concern of the People".Good Leader should concern about the task as well as the people.
ReplyDeleteManagers/ Leaders are key persons in an enterprise to design and improve the working conditions and thus influence the health of subordinates. They plan, lead, coordinate and control work organisation and work activities. They also have a large impact on general working demands, control and social support, which are known to strongly influence employee health. Accordingly they are the ones primarily influencing working conditions and deciding on changes in the workplace and work environment. All these aspects contribute to determining the level of safety and health at work.
ReplyDeleteI think this is an important aspect to talk about, Because leadership is where decisions can be made and strategies developed, so involvement of the mangement is important.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Srilankan Labour law and disability or major injury should be reported to Labour department and legal actions are acceptable upto 5years. So to reduce the organizations HSE potential threats leadership should ephasis more into this.
A safety leader is somebody who not only exhibits personal safety behaviors, but inspires others to do the same. These are people who not only follow safety protocols to the letter, but speak up in a constructive way when they see that others could be doing something in a safer manner.
ReplyDeleteSafety leaders don’t necessarily have to be managers or supervisors. It can be anybody who has positive social influence over their peers and an interest in improving safety across the organization. It’s important to note that a safety leader should be less like a hall monitor and more like a cultural influencer.
